Answer:
As a former shipwright and a current Florida Yacht Broker, I can tell you that the Bayliner Trophy is a well found POPULAR boat. Bayliner had only three bad years (1980-1982) but that was a long time ago. They are owned by the Brunswick Goup now (Sea Ray, Grady White, Et Al.) and The Brunswick Group not only knows how to build a decent boat they understand customer satisfaction better than most of the other conglomerates. The cleats, engines, hinges, windshields, and other parts on the Bayliner Trophy is the same as what is on Sea Rays, Grady Whites, Hurricanes, Etc. There is a tremendous amount of standardization in the industry now. Perko and Attwood supply most of the manufacturers with the various assorted hardware for ALL the boats built in North America. The main thing you are paying for is a)Name brand, b)Naval Architect, c)Fiberglass. Remember that Fiberglass is also a Petroleum Distillate and crude oil affects its price as well. The thicker the fiberglass the higher the cost for a similar sized vessel. That being said, the number one searched for boat in online searches from Yachtworld and Boats.com is Bayliner. This has been true on and off for many years. Bayliner, Sea Ray, Grady White, Bertram, Hunter, and Catalina all have remained in the top 10 since online listings appeared. So if you have someone telling you that Bayliners are not up to par, realize that is their opinion, but also realize that they are very popular and there must be a reason for that. On a similar plane of thought, the Europeans (Germans, French, Swedish, Norwegians) LOVE Bayliners. We shipped 4 over there last year in one month and Bayliners pass the rigorous CE and RCD standard that all European boats must pass. I hope this answers your questions about the Bayliner.
